Starting that fire

Friends who were visiting us this summer spied our tall stack of cardboard egg cartons and asked what we were doing with them. I answered, “trying to remember to bring them back to the Egg Lady.” Well, my friends decided to educate us and let us in on their fire starting secret. Apparently, cardboard egg cartons are the perfect combination of flammability and density. At first, they used a labor intensive version – an egg carton stuffed with dryer lint and wax made by a friend. Then they decided to try straight egg cartons. The rest as they say is history. They save egg cartons all year round to burn them during the long cold winters.

The other day, I remembered our conversation and decided to try it. It was amazing. It worked like magic! At first, I used the whole egg carton – but, oh no, that’s not necessary. Only half will do the trick. Therefore, if you’re looking for a fast and easy way to start a fire, I encourage you to give it a try. You will never look back.

Sorry Egg Lady, I’ll need to keep all my egg cartons from now on – although, I am sure you won’t be missing them as I rarely ever remember to return them to you in the first place.
