It’s a party and Solidago is our guest of honor!
Explore the amazing world of Goldenrod, a plant that has been nourishing and healing us for thousands of years. During this class we will explore Solidago’s magical healing properties and how to harness her vibrant color used to dye fibers. It will be a day filled with learning, processing, and magic.
Students are welcome to bring one garment (no bigger than a shirt) made from 100% cotton or 100% wool to dye. Everyone will get the opportunity to make an oil or tincture to take home.
We are so honored to be working with José Buenaventura González Gutiérrez! José is a Zapotec Master Weaver from Teotitlan del Valle, in the state of Oaxaca, México. He learned to weave from his father when he was ten years old. Weaving has been a family tradition for over 7 generations. José’s wool is hand carded and hand spun. He then dyes the yarn using only natural and organic dyes. He uses locally grown materials, such as goldenrod, pomegranate, bark of coco, marigold flowers, mosses, and cochineal. The cochineal are small bugs that infest the cactus, and they yield red, orange, maroon and pink colors. José has been carding, spinning, dyeing and weaving for over 40 years. He moved to New York a little over 6 years ago.

Exploring Plantain
Saturday, April 8, 2017 ~ Noon-3:00pm
Held at 3336 Podunk Rd, Trumansburg, NY
Some call it the ‘band-aid’ plant but Plantain is oh-so-much more. Come explore this very common and abundant plant to see the diverse ways it can be used. From head to tail, we will discuss the healing properties and understand why this herb was known as life medicine. After this class, I bet you’ll never look at this plantain the same way again.
Students will make an infused oil and lip balm to bring home.
