Trees & Vines
Mike has spent over 35 years in agriculture – mostly working with orchards, vineyards, and other specialty crops. During his sophomore year at Virginia Tech he took a summer job at a large orchard in central Virginia and never looked back. He graduated in ‘86 with a BS in Horticulture, in ‘92 with a MS from Cornell, and even started a PhD project that was quickly upended when he decided that being a farmer was where his heart lied. He’s farmed in Virginia, Minnesota, Vermont, California, and New York. Over the past 20 years his passion for sustainable agriculture has evolved into a profound dedication to the principles and practices of ecologically focused, biodynamic agricultural. Everything he’s learned over the years tells him biodynamic farming is the next logical step in organic farming and food systems. Mike has been a consultant to farmers and orchardists for the last 15 years while also operating his own biodynamically enlivened orchard and mushroom operation in central New York.
